2. We Rise By Lifting Others Black History Month Grant

The Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce (VABCC) is delighted to announce the $500 Micro Grant in celebration of Black History Month. The purpose of this grant is to recognize, support, and motivate our member entrepreneurs, recognizing their contributions to our community.

At VABCC, we believe that small businesses are the backbone of our economy and community. They create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and enrich our neighborhoods with their services and products. This grant is a testament to our commitment to fostering an environment where these businesses can thrive.

.ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be members of the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce.
  • The business must be owned by the applicant.
  • The business must be operational and not in the idea or pre-launch stage.

1. Backing Small Businesses 2024 Initial Grant

In partnership with American Express, the Backing Small Businesses grant program supports economically vulnerable and under-resourced small businesses with community reach and/​or cultural significance. This year, eligible small business owners can apply for $10,000 grants for projects that grow or improve their businesses by building community, supporting their economic viability, or bolstering meaningful change.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Businesses must meet the following criteria to apply:
  • The applicant must be an owner of the business.
  • The applicant must be at least age 18 years or older.
  • The business must be in a ​bricks-and-mortar” location and operate in an older or historic main street, downtown, or commercial district in the United States.
  • The business must be an independent business and not part of a franchise.
  • The business must employ 20 or less full time employees.
  • The business must have been in operation on or before January 12023.

4. HerRise MicroGrant Application

The HerRise Micro-Grant provides financial assistance, with the help of our corporate sponsors and donors, to women of color creating innovative solutions that impact their community and that are often unable to secure funding for their small business.

Apply for the HerRise MicroGrant by sharing your business pitch and plan in the application. Applications close on the last day of the month, and the winners will be announced at the HerSuiteSpot First Friday Mixer in the following month.

Who Should Apply:

  • Businesses 51% owned by women of color
  • Businesses currently registered in the US
  • Non-profits, franchise, direct seller, authorized reseller or independent consultant not eligible

3. Walmart Local Community Grants

Local community grants are awarded through an open application process and provide funding directly from Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities to local organizations in the U.S. Don’t know how to determine your local facility? Don’t worry, the application will assist you.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Local Community grants range from a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $5,000.
  • Eligible nonprofit organizations must operate on the local level (or be an affiliate/chapter of a larger organization that operates locally) and directly benefit the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding.
  • Grant applications for calendar year 2023 will be accepted on a quarterly basis. Deadlines for submissions are as follows:
    • Quarter 1: Feb 1 – April 15
    • Quarter 2: May 1 – July 15
    • Quarter 3: August 1 – October 15
    • Quarter 4: November 1 – December 31
